Welcome to our Key Stage Two home learning page; below you will find links to websites which children can access during lockdown.

 

Teachers will communicate via Class Dojo and work will be set on Google Classroom or Purple Mash. It is expected that completed work will be uploaded to Google Classroom or Purple Mash and photographs shared on Class Dojo. Paper packs are available on request and these should be returned to school once completed.

Remember to check out BBC2 and CBBC as they are providing 5 hours of educational programming each weekday to support learning; they are on Youtube too! In addition, BBC Teach has a vast range of lessons to watch, and join in with, which support every subject.

Hello!

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all return in September, after such a look time away.

This will be a very important year for us all, as we work hard to compensate for the inevitable gaps. so  attendance will be critical for all of us, nobody can afford to miss a day! Don't forget the initiative which means that the class with the best attendance each week is rewarded with toast. It is so important, and not just for the tasty snack!   

To support them further, we believe that listening to children read is vital. Children are expected to read from their school library book every night: parents/guardians can record their child’s progress in their reading record books. Together, we need to challenge every child to read widely, and often. How many can earn Bronze or Silver reading awards this term, or move up to the next colour in the reading scheme? 

Everyone has personal log-ins for software programmes we use regularly (which will be put in Homework Diary): Purple mash; Epic Books; Owl Books . Do ask them to show you how each works, and how they can earn rewards for success. If they are ever at a loose end, could they be encouraged to choose to read at home in this way?

 

 

English: over the course of the term the children will be looking at various writing genre including;

 * persuasive, including in letter format  * narrative, sometimes showing shifts in formality plus using language and techniques taken from our reading of a classic author  * explanations * poetry.

Before beginning to write their own pieces in the style, the children will analyse texts of each genre to become familiar with the standard features. Much of the writing will be taught in a cross-curricula way and relate to our  history, Geography and Science learning. We will be reading a novel by Michael Morpurgo. Look out for other works written by him, or any film adaptations of his work.

 

Grammar, spelling and handwriting feature throughout. For this group, clear well organised presentation will have a strong focus.

 

You can help your child by practising their spelling words at home. Do focus on the Yr 5/6 list of words, which is in their Homework Diary and in the curriculum block below, as previous spelling assessments show this is an area for development. Thank you for encouraging them to read as much as possible: it all helps!  

 

Mathematics: new learning will include: recognising equivalence; ratio and proportion; place value to 3 decimal places; number, and sequence, of steps to aid problem solving; geometry - properties of 2D/3D shape including the circle. 

Continuous objectives: 

* addition and subtraction * multiplication and division *reasoning to solve multi-step problems  *statistics *fractions, decimals & percentages * re-application of taught skills for arithmetic and reasoning.

As well as learning specific skills, your child will re-apply them to reasoning and open-ended investigations. This means that they can develop ways to approach problem solving using extended, standard methods of recording. We will continue to rehearse and re-visit multiplication and division facts this term: it is important that the children are confident and have rapid recall of multiples and factors. Watch them on software programmes we use at school - TT Rockstars and Mathletics!  Everyone knows their personal log-ins, so they can access the programme at homes. Ask them to show you, and perhaps you could test yourself too!

You can help your child by making sure they rehearse all their multiplication and division facts up to 12 squared! Find them in their Homework Diary, together with other useful reminders to help learning 'stick'.

Reminders – cut me out and stick me on the fridge:

  

  • class homework (out on Friday, return Tuesday);
  • reading (every night if possible as this is so important);
  • games kit on Thursday ( suitable footwear and school P.E. kit, rather than football strips please);
  • swimming may resume w/c 5th October and should be Friday morning.
