What we are learning at the moment
Mathematics
This half-term we will be focussing on Place Value, reinforcing our understanding of numbers up to ten million. This will include rounding and ordering numbers and placing them on a number line.
We will then move on to really embed our understanding of formal methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This includes mastering long division.
English
This half-term we are looking at an adaption by Ian McEwan of Rose Blanche, a classic text by Roberto Innocenti. We are going to use this text to practise a range of writerly techniques, in particular looking at the difference between formal and informal language in speech. The children will be using what they learn from the text to write a diary entry and a speech.
Science
Our first Science topic is all about Electricity. We will be looking at atoms to learn what exactly causes the flow of electrical current, and why some materials conduct electricity better than others. We will then be learning how to efficiently represent circuits and how to troubleshoot what might be wrong with them.
Geography
In Geography we will be finding out about the awesome tectonic forces that have shaped our Earth. We will be learning about what exactly happens at different types of plate boundaries and what causes natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanoes.
Art
Our first Art topic is looking at the famous British artist J.M.W. Turner, who was appointed the 'Professor of Perspective'. We are going to find out what exactly he taught his students, over a hundred years ago, and how it can help our drawing give the illusion of space and depth.
Computing
We are learning all about networks, and how information is exchanged on the internet.
P.E.
We are starting the year with Gymnastics, learning a range of new techniques and ways to use them as part of a performance.
