Learning together, growing together

Moving to Year One

At the end of Reception your child will be assessed against the ELGs (Early Learning Goals). These are assessed based on teacher judgement and evidence they have seen throughout the year. There is no test or any other separate assessment completed by the child. Please see the link on the Additional Information for Parents tab on the Reception page to see these.

When they move to Year One the children will change from accessing the Early Years Curriculum and begin to access the National Curriculum. This will build on learning from reception, as well as introducing new ideas. You may notice that your child also begins talking about different subjects they have not mentioned before - for example learning explored in Understanding the World in Reception will now form the starting point for subjects including History, Geography, RE and Science in Year One!

Children will also move into a different section of the school, accessing a different outdoor space, breaks and dinner time. Children will continue to be eligible for free school dinners throughout Year One and Two as they were in Reception. If you are eligible for any of the following please also speak to the office about completing a Pupil Premium form - sometimes also  known as free school meals - to see if you can benefit from this:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
