What we are learning at the moment
In the first part of our Summer term we will be thinking about our build-up to our SATs exams, ensuring that our students feel confident and well-prepared for the challenge by consolidating their understanding of what we have learned together. We will also be learning some new and exciting things, as well as continuing to prepare ourselves for the next step into Year 7!
Mathematics
This half term we are thinking in lots of detail about ways of breaking up a whole. We are spending a lot of time really getting to grips with decimal fractions and
English
This half-term we will continue to look at Matt Goodfellow's prize-winning book The Final Year. The book tells the story of a boy in his last year of primary school who is having a tough time with his emotions, and is told entirely in verse. It is a great opportunity to learn more about how poets write, but also a great chance for our pupils to think about what they find tough, and what worries they might have about the next big steps they are about to take. While reading and exploring, pupils will keep their own private poetry journals so that they can start to express their own ideas and feelings in verse.
Alongside The Final Year we are reading and responding to David Almond's classic children's novel, Skellig. Skellig was a key influence on Matt Goodfellow, and the protagonist of The Final Year references David Almond's novel often to make sense of his own world. We will be using this to think about intertextual relationships, and reflect on the place that reading has in our own lives.
Science
In Science we are turning towards physics, thinking about the properties of light. We will be thinking about how light moves and can be reflected or refracted. We will be learning about the visible (and not visible) spectrum of light, and why the world looks the way it does to us.
Geography
In Geography we will be practising our map skills, looking at Ordinance Survey maps. We will be using these skills to navigate courses inside and outside.
DT
This term we will be practising our cooking skills, learning all about how to make fresh pasta.
Computing
We are going to be practising our coding skills by creating a game on Scratch.
Music
We are experimenting with composition and thinking about how songs are constructed.
P.S.H.E.
This term we will be thinking and talking about relationships and the role they play in our lives. This includes thinking about how we look after our own mental health, and the key role that having healthy and supportive relationships can play in this. We will also be thinking about how to be careful when making new friendships with strangers, including online.
R.E.
We are looking at the tradition of Hinduism. Do beliefs in Karma, Samsara and Moksha help Sanatanis live good lives?
