The Rainbow Room is a specialist sensory and nurture provision designed to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The provision offers a structured, low-arousal environment that supports emotional regulation, sensory processing and readiness for learning. The room is purposefully resourced with sensory regulation equipment, calming lighting, tactile materials and movement-based resources to meet a wide range of individual sensory profiles.
The Rainbow Room is led by Miss Morgan and Mrs Jackson, who provide targeted support through planned interventions, individual regulation programmes and responsive in-the-moment support. Pupils may access the Rainbow Room as part of their graduated response, through scheduled sensory breaks, or during periods of emotional dysregulation to support self-regulation and safe return to class.
Support within the Rainbow Room focuses on:
Developing emotional regulation and self-management skills
Supporting sensory needs to reduce barriers to learning
Building communication, confidence and positive relationships
Promoting inclusion and successful reintegration into the classroom
The Rainbow Room plays a key role in the school’s inclusive approach to SEND, ensuring pupils feel safe, supported and able to engage positively with learning. Provision is monitored and adapted to meet individual needs, with close communication between staff, class teachers and families.
