  • Year 3

Hello! My name is Miss Warlow, and I am delighted to be the Class Teacher in Year 3. We are supported by our Teaching Assistant, Mrs Muldoon. I thrive in creating a safe, loving and stimulating environment to support all children in the classroom. With my holistic approach to teaching, we don't just prioritise academic growth, but the growth of the whole child in all areas, academically, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.

I love reading, and I am confident that by the end of year 3 every child will enjoy reading just as much as me. This is especially a priority for us this year, with the children utilising our class reading corner to support their speech and language skills.

In my free time I love to cook, spend time with my friends and family and I love taking my dog Bobby on lots of new adventures walking together.

    AUTUMN 2

    Maths

This half-term, the children will be focusing on Multiplication and Division. ✖️➗ We will be developing our understanding of multiplication and division, exploring how these two operations are linked. The children will be learning to recognise and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, as well as practising counting in equal groups and sharing amounts equally. 🔢

We will use a range of concrete resources, pictorial representations and practical activities to support learning and deepen understanding. 🧩 The children will also have opportunities to apply their knowledge and develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills through a variety of engaging challenges. 🌟

    English

This half-term in English, we will be exploring our new story, The Fox. 🦊 The children will develop their reading comprehension skills by making predictions, discussing characters and events, and exploring the language used throughout the story.

The children will use The Fox as inspiration for their own writing. ✍️ They will develop their descriptive language, expand their vocabulary and experiment with different sentence structures to create engaging pieces of writing. Alongside this, they will continue to develop their understanding of grammar, punctuation and spelling, applying these skills within their written work.

Most importantly, The Fox will encourage the children to use their imagination, share their ideas and develop a love of reading. 🌟 Through exploring the story, we will discuss themes, characters and events, encouraging the children to think creatively, express their opinions and become confident, enthusiastic readers and writers. ❤️

    Reading in year 3

Your child will be provided with a selection of books and a reading diary to take home. Please ensure that these are kept safely in their book bag and brought back to school every day.

Throughout the week, your child will have the opportunity to read with either myself or Mrs Muldoon. In addition, the children will have plenty of opportunities to explore, share and enjoy a wide range of books both at school and at home throughout the term.

    Science

This half-term in Science, the children will be learning about Animals Including Humans. 🐾 We will be exploring the importance of nutrition and understanding that humans and other animals need the right types and amounts of food to stay healthy. The children will learn about the different food groups and the importance of a balanced diet. 🥦🍎

We will also be investigating the importance of skeletons and muscles, learning how they support, protect and help our bodies to move. 💪 The children will explore the similarities and differences between human and animal skeletons, developing their scientific vocabulary and understanding through practical activities and investigations. 🔍

Most importantly, the children will develop their understanding of how to keep their bodies healthy and the important role that food, exercise and our skeletons play in keeping us fit and strong. 🌟

    History

This half-term, our History learning will focus on The Stone Age. 🏺 The children will travel back in time to explore what life was like during the Stone Age, discovering how early humans lived, what they ate, the homes they lived in and the tools they used. We will explore the differences between the Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age), Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) and Neolithic (New Stone Age), learning how life changed over thousands of years.

The children will investigate how people hunted, gathered food, made tools and used natural materials to survive. 🪨 We will also explore important historical sites, including Stonehenge, and consider what they can teach us about the past. 🔍

Throughout our learning, the children will develop their historical skills by exploring artefacts, asking and answering questions about the past, placing events on timelines and identifying similarities and differences between life in the Stone Age and life today. 🌟

    PE

This half-term, our PE learning will focus on Dance. 💃 The children will develop their coordination, balance and control as they explore different movements and ways of expressing themselves through dance.

They will learn how to create and perform a range of movements, using different levels, directions, speeds and rhythms. 🎵 The children will work both independently and collaboratively to develop dance sequences, exploring how to link movements together and perform them with confidence.

Throughout our lessons, the children will develop their creativity, listening skills and teamwork, learning how to work together to create, practise and perform their own dance routines. 🌟
