Hello! My name is Miss Warlow, and I am delighted to be the Class Teacher in Year 3. We are supported by our Teaching Assistant, Mrs Muldoon. I thrive in creating a safe, loving and stimulating environment to support all children in the classroom. With my holistic approach to teaching, we don't just prioritise academic growth, but the growth of the whole child in all areas, academically, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
I love reading, and I am confident that by the end of year 3 every child will enjoy reading just as much as me. This is especially a priority for us this year, with the children utilising our class reading corner to support their speech and language skills.
In my free time I love to cook, spend time with my friends and family and I love taking my dog Bobby on lots of new adventures walking together.
Maths
This half-term the children are focusing on Place Value. We have been learning how to partition numbers from 0 to 100, grouping numbers into hundreds, tens and ones and identifying where numbers would be placed on a number line. The children will be confident in identifying these numbers and using their critical thinking skills to complete problem-solving questions using concrete resources to support all learning.
English
In English, this half-term we are reading The Iron Man. We are learning how to make predictions, using adjectives to describe settings and characters.
The children will also use The Iron Man as inspiration for their own writing. They will develop their use of descriptive language, expand their vocabulary and experiment with sentence structure to create engaging pieces of writing. Alongside this, they will explore different aspects of grammar, punctuation and spelling within meaningful contexts.
Most importantly, The Iron Man will encourage children to use their imagination, share ideas and develop a love of reading through a story filled with suspense, friendship, courage and adventure.
Reading in year 3
Your child will be provided with a selection of books and a reading diary to take home. Please ensure that these are kept safely in their book bag and brought back to school every day.
Throughout the week, your child will have the opportunity to read with either myself or Mrs Muldoon. In addition, the children will have plenty of opportunities to explore, share and enjoy a wide range of books both at school and at home throughout the term.
Science
In Science, we are learning about rocks. We are identifying the different types of rocks and how they are formed and how they change, as well as the areas in which we can find these rocks and recognise that rocks are not made by humans.
Geography
This half-term, our Geography learning will focus on understanding our world and the physical and human features that shape it. The children will explore topics such as climate, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as how people live, work and use natural resources.
We will also develop the children’s map-reading and geographical skills, using maps, atlases, globes and compass directions to locate places and explore different environments. Through fieldwork, the children will investigate their local area, observing and recording geographical features and presenting their findings in a range of ways.
PE
This term, our PE focus will be gymnastics. The children will develop their balance, coordination, flexibility and strength through a range of movements and sequences.
They will learn to perform different shapes, balances and movements with control, linking these together to create short gymnastics routines. The children will also develop their ability to use space safely, work with others and evaluate and improve their performances.
